The Friction
Cassie Young Acupuncture launched as a brand-new clinic, which meant confronting the strictest version of the cold-start problem: zero domain authority, zero local map presence, and zero historical traffic in a saturated health and wellness market. Established competitors held years of accumulated reviews, backlinks and behavioural data.
A new clinic cannot out-spend that history, and an aesthetic website alone does nothing to close the gap. What a cold start actually requires is a heavily structured technical baseline and rigid KPIs, so that early traction can be measured against projections rather than judged on feel.
The Architecture
We inverted the usual launch sequence and built the measurement model first. Before the site went live we established the KPIs that would define success and produced projected baseline growth curves for visibility, indexation and local impressions, so every post-launch number could be compared against a prediction.
The infrastructure was then built to earn trust from machines as quickly as possible: aggressive local JSON-LD schema describing the clinic, its practitioner and its services; a fully optimised Google Business Profile; and a site architecture designed for immediate, complete indexing. Nothing was left for search engines to infer.
The Result
The clinic achieved a 100% indexation rate at launch and hit its Phase 1 target milestones within the first 90 days. Local search visibility is tracking at 121% of the projected model (ahead of the curve the engagement was designed around) and early local pack impressions continue to run ahead of prediction, providing a data-driven roadmap for scaling patient acquisition as the domain matures.
For a zero-history launch, that is the meaningful result: not a single spectacular number, but measured traction ahead of a model that was written down before launch, which is what makes the growth plan trustworthy.
The Method, Documented
The cold-start playbook used here mirrors the approach in our Switching Made Simple case study, where an organic presence was built from zero domain history in a harder market. The entity-trust techniques are documented in Semantic Schema Mapping. Launching something new? Start with the free Visibility Audit.
