The Challenge
Amaze is Australia's sovereign AI, cloud and data infrastructure company: NVIDIA GPU clusters, private cloud, bare metal and storage, built, run and governed in Australia for regulated-sector buyers. In 2026 the business repositioned around that sovereignty story, but its web presence was still telling the old one.
The legacy site was visible without being relevant. In mid-2025 it drew over 125,000 impressions a month at an average position of 52, converting to barely 137 clicks. Google could see the site; it just had no reason to rank it for anything that mattered. By May 2026 organic clicks had slid to 62 a month, while the category conversation (sovereign cloud, GPU infrastructure, data residency) was accelerating without Amaze in it.
The Approach
This was not an SEO retainer bolted onto an old site. Minilab delivered the repositioning as one build: go-to-market narrative, product architecture and a new website engineered for both Google and AI retrieval.
- GTM Positioning: The offer was reframed around sovereignty for regulated buyers: financial services, government and critical infrastructure evaluating data residency and compliance exposure. Every page leads with what those buyers actually need to verify.
- Product Suite Architecture: A sprawling services list was restructured into a coherent suite: Sovereign AI (GPU clusters, multimodel inferencing), Sovereign Cloud (virtual machines, private cloud, bare metal, colocation), Data (object and block storage, disaster recovery) and Networks. One mental model, one navigation, one URL structure.
- Astro Rebuild: The new site ships as static-first Astro with validated content collections. Every page carries consistent metadata, structured data and clean semantic HTML that retrieval systems can chunk and cite.
- Site Migration: The legacy site was retired behind a complete URL map: every old path, including the legacy blog and cloud-computing article routes, 301-redirects to its successor. Link equity carried across while the low-value footprint was deliberately dropped.
- AI Search Content System: Articles are engineered for generative retrieval: direct-answer FAQ blocks, comparison tables, quotable key takeaways and entity-rich internal linking, published against the keyword clusters regulated buyers search.
The Results
In the 90 days after relaunch, monthly organic clicks rose from 62 to 246 (+297%). Average position improved from 54 to 33 year on year: 21 places across the whole indexed footprint. Engagement rate more than doubled, from 0.19 at the low point to 0.44, on 4,742 sessions in August.
More importantly, the site has started surfacing for the category terms the repositioning targets: sovereign cloud australia, colocation sydney and enterprise VMware alternatives are all now generating impressions, terms the old site never appeared for.
What Actually Happened
The honest mechanism matters. The old site's 125K monthly impressions were spray: enormous surface area at positions where nobody clicks. The rebuild deliberately traded that for a smaller, sharper footprint. Impressions reset to a fraction of the old number, then rebuilt to 55,000 a month at an average position 21 places higher, and clicks followed. Fewer pages, better targeted, retrieved more often. The Cassie Young wellness engagement shows the same targeted-footprint principle at boutique scale, and the full results index holds every engagement's numbers.
How this is measured: clicks, impressions and positions are Google Search Console for the amaze.au domain property, June 2025 to August 2026. Engagement and sessions are GA4. Year-on-year position compares August 2025 (54.2) with August 2026 (33.2).
